development of a product or system related to a context, problem, need or
opportunity that has been identified by self.

· People: age, target
market, human rights, access;
· Purpose: function,
what the product will do;
· Appearance and
aesthetics: form, colour, shape, feel;

Assessment Task
Scenario – Background
context
There
is a great deal of discontent from many poor communities, because they feel
that the government should provide them with homes. They are living in very poorly constructed
temporary shacks which do not really protect them from the cold and rain. In some municipalities, the people burn tyres
and protest against the lack of basic houses and service delivery. The government is anxious to prevent further
conflict and an escalation of violence and is looking at developing low-cost
houses that will be acceptable to the people but at the same time affordable
within the housing budget.
Design brief
Write
a design brief for a model of a low-cost
house to be made for the community. In
the design brief you must state:
·
what
exactly must be done
·
all
constraints, such as size, numbers of rooms, materials to be used etc.
